Mount Kilimanjaro has an altitude of 5895 m above the sea level making it the highest mountain in Africa. Also, it is known for its uniqueness top ice layer covering it throughout the year and surrounded by savannah forest. It has been the source of many tourists in Tanzania making it to receive about 40000 tourists every year with an income of about 50USD million annually.
Disappearing of ice on Mount Kilimanjaro
The beautiful ice layer on top of Mount Kilimanjaro is disappearing and the situation is getting worse due to the increase in temperature leading to the evaporation of glaciers. However, about 85% of the ice has vanished since 1912 even before global warming. But now the situation is getting worse, the global warming we are having today has increased the speed of the disappearance more than ever before.
Human activities such as deforestation, installation of heavy industries and mining activities has highly contributed to the climate change which has increased the concentration of green house gases such as Carbon(C), Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs), methane(CH4) and Sulfur dioxide(SO2) to destruct ozone layer which cause the sun rays to penetrate directly to the Earth surface leading to the melting of ice and other environmental problems we are facing today such as draught and skin cancer.
Save the world……
The world should come to the point of understanding the importance of conserving the environment so that the future generation may benefit. The sustainable way of doing things is very important so as to achieve the goal.
